COLOR: Yellow

I actually really liked this assignment. We were suppose to pick a color and find it in the natural environment. My favorite colors are yellow and green so i chose yellow. There is actually a lot of yellow everywhere. My first image is from a skate shop Eastern Boarder, there were some yellow boards so i wanted to get a good angle for that shot, so you can see all the boards. My next image is a container of drawing utensils, I thought it would be a cool overhead shot, and I played with the ISO and that was my favorite one. My third one was of hockey sticks and I wanted to make them spin so I played around with spinning the camera. I think I might print these because I really liked how they came out

Malevich's Suprematism

All class we worked on these famous paintings and changed them into something else. I enjoyed this class because I am not good with photoshop so I learned a lot today and it was fun. For the first image i was just trying to make a good fun composition and try different things. In the second image i tried to have an idea before hand and that was to make a landscape, so that is what I was going for in the second image.

Artist Lecture #1

I went to hear Angus Trumble talk about his recent book that he wrote, "The Finger." This is his second book, the first book he wrote was "A Brief History of the Smile."  I liked Angus, he was a funny guy. He is from Australia and had an awesome Australian accent. This lecture was about how he went about writing the book. He wanted to look at different hands and how they appear in art, and the trends he has found.
In chapter one he talks about the first prehistoric hands, hands were one of the first pieces of artwork. Caveman use to put their hands up against the rocks and blow paint around it making a silhouette of a handprint. In chapter two he looks at hands in the renaissance era.

He noticed that all renaissance hands are plump. He then goes on to say that portraits of hispanic people tend to have skinny and long fingers. Chapter two goes more into the anatomy of the hand. He also taps into the peace sign and the Romans. The last thing he talks about are gloves and nail polish. He referred to nail polish has nail varnish. Gloves and nail polish tend to show a persons status. When you have gloves or nail polish on, you are of higher status.
His book was a mixture of art history, the anatomy of the finger, and analysis of the finger. The lecture was interesting and I liked exploring all trends he found, and all of his findings were true about hands in art history. I personally was not into the subject matter that much because talking about hands got a little boring. I wished we got to look at more examples of artwork. He only showed a few images but overall i enjoyed it.

Time of Day

Morning

sunny afternoon- Natural

late at night
I choose this as my urban because this picture was taking on main st. It was a lamp shop, it was around 11 pm when i took this picture.

This assignment was a little bit hard for me because I do not have a lot of time during the day to take pictures three times as different times. The first morning shot was about 8 am before I drove up to school and took pictures in my backyard. I like how the first one came out, I like the texture. For the middle of the day, I had to take them during class time so I was at Dover Point with my painting class and took some pictures out there. The night pictures were taking as midnight on Main Street in my hometown. I felt extremely creepy and also was a little scared to be on sketchy Main Street at midnight so I kind of rushed them but I really like my lamp picture and pictures of the truck on the contact sheet.

ISO White Balance

I am very happy we did this assignment because I never knew what an ISO was and when I was in Florida last year, I took a bunch of pictures on the beach and when I went inside the pictures were very blue and I had no idea why and I was not happy. Some how my ISO button must of got switched and now I know why it is blue haha.

4 x 4 Space

These were taking during class time, the assignment was to go take pictures within a 4 x 4 space. I went straight for Parsons Hall because I was in there the day before and found a hallway that is being worked on, so you can see the ceiling and all the wires, I thought this would be interesting as a series. I tried to get some good angles and capture everything that was around me in a 4 x 4 space. I was happy with the pictures.

Favorite Classmates scanned Images

I really like image because i personally love doing puzzles. I think it was a very creative idea. I also like that half the of puzzle pieces are flipped over. It makes it a more interesting composition. I also like the contrast from the black background to the light hands and puzzle peices.

I choose this as one of my favorites because it really caught my eye. Like in the first image i really like the contrast of the white hands on the background. The simplicity of it really intrigues me. I also love the flower in the middle of the glass and the sense of space it within it.

Self Portrait Scanner Project

This assignment was to take self portraits using a scanner. I thought this assignment was really cool, as soon as she gave it to us I was pretty excited and started thinking about it right away. I knew for sure i was going to try and scan my face so I did a couple trails and it came out well. Then I realized I wanted an ipod somewhere in one because I AM ALWAYS listening to my ipod. I started to get a little creative and thought I wanted something different shown on the ipod then just what song was playing and I thought I defiantly wanted a picture of my mom. That is the first image in this series and my favorite.  The second one is a collage of a lot of people that are important to me thrown in with the jewelry i wear everyday. The third one shows my passion for the Boston Bruins, I am a a huge hockey fan and wanted to portray that. The fourth are some of my test stripes from photo class freshman year and high school to show my passion for photography

Best Kitchen shots

For this assignment we had to take pictures of our kitchen. I think this has been my least favorite assignment. I could not get creative at all, I really hated the subject matter. I live in a tiny apartment so my kitchen is small and has nothing cool in it. The first image in here, was by far my best one and I like it but the subject matter still does not thrill me. I actually went back and shot a couple more but I still did not like the results that much.

Golden Means Best Shot

This was our first assignment and I really enjoyed taking theses pictures. I have always wanted to take pictures at Wagon Hill, seriously every time I drive by it, I want to stop. Normally I am on my way somewhere and I have never been able to stop in all my four years here. Finally, I thought this would be a great opportunity. I think I just happened to go at the right time and got some good sunset pictures. First, I was just gonna take pictures of the Wagon but me and my friend went for a walk and found a lot of great stuff. We found a random old car rusting in the woods, I do not know if it was placed there on purpose because he found a couple other random old cars. We started to walk down to the water, but i really enjoyed the pictures of my friend on the wagon and of the cars the best. My favorite picture is the first image, the silhouette. I did not stage it, he was just getting down and happened to catch him in the act and I think the picture came out beautifully. I really like the composition, color, and sunlight rays coming through next to him.
